Fine Furniture

At Bode Design we pride ourselves on our ability to create just the piece of furniture you are looking for – and which you have not been able to find elsewhere.

We have a small woodworking studio at our home and can create high quality affordable furnishings in any wood of your choice.  We are both trained as furniture makers in the classical tradition, and make extensive use of old fashioned hand tools to complement the mechanized equipment in our studio.

You will see from the examples we show here that the range of styles in our reperatory is very extensive, and we love to work with our clients to craft exactly what they want for their homes, whether their tastes run to contemporary or traditional.

We work in a wide variety of domestic hardwoods - black walnut, cherry, eastern hard maple - and more unusual species such as honduras and african mahogany, wenge and bubinga.

We are expert in the old art of hammer veneering using hot hide glue, which allows us to lay “difficult” veneers!  We also use a vacuum press to lay veneers in unusual shapes.

Our finishing techniques range from hand rubbed oil and wax, to very durable catalyzed lacquers which are ideal for dining tables which may be subject to spills and accidents!
